Signs of a Cheating Girlfriend

March 31st, 2008

Cheating has plagued love lives for generations. Sometimes, one never finds out about an affair a girlfriend has had. However, there are certain signs which might give one a clue as to whether (and exactly to what limit) the girlfriend is cheating.

The first sign of infidelity by a girlfriend in a relationship is her general disinterest in anything that the two enjoyed doing together previously. Sometimes this disinterest is blatant. For example, if a couple watches a movie together, and afterwards she can’t remember anything about the movie, then she might be deeply distracted by something. This disinterest then might graduate into a series of unexplained cancellations of plans.

Another sign of infidelity is an inexplicable display of guilt. One way in which guilt manifests itself is avoidance of the person who the guilty party feels is being hurt by her actions. The cheating girlfriend is therefore prone to generally avoiding the injured party - either by not taking calls or by not meeting for that ride or walk the couple used to like so much. Guilt can also cause pre-existing levels of intimacy to plummet.

Of course, there are countless other signs of a new lover: a sudden increase in her monthly expenses and car mileage; a splurge on cosmetics and clothes; a chronically non-reachable cell phone; an increase in overtime at her job without the accompanying increase in her paycheck, and so on. Also, if you notice a sudden increase in the number of her distant cousins, friends, ex-classmates, college friends, and so on, beware: she might be cheating.

Girlfriends having an affair have to be extremely well organized; their schedules are therefore punctiliously maintained. An affair is just an extension of a girl’s daily life: she has to find time for the accomplice between family, work, social life, and the injured party. Keeping a big secret is a very tiresome job, and only the coolest, most calculating people can actually keep such a secret. If your girlfriend is not very resourceful and she is keeping a secret, she will probably falter somewhere and maybe blurt it out to you herself.

Cycling in Virginia, Long-distance Newport News to Washington DC

March 29th, 2008

When starting from Newport News it is about 15 miles to the Yorktown Toll Bridge heading up Highway 17 and 100 miles to Fredericksburg then if you take Highway 1 into Washington it is another 45 miles to the bridge into Washington DC. Another way to go is to take Highway 17 from Yorktown Toll Bridge 80 miles to Highway 301 and cross into Maryland to Highway 5 and from there, well all roads lead to Washington DC as they say?

The roads in Virginia are not so bad and yet Highway One needs some work, watch those bike rims if you are traveling over 20 mph in places, you have to wonder what our tax dollars go for these days? The roads in some parts of Washington DC some would perhaps disagree with you if you called them; Actual Roads. As for traffic, I prefer to do this ride on a weekday if you have the luxury, less traffic. In Washington DC I prefer the weekends although traffic always is a bear.

The best part about this route is that there are a lot of fellow cyclists at all points and if you have a major problem, catastrophe or second flat tire with no additional tube, getting a ride is fairly easy. Folks in Virginia are pretty nice and if you take the Maryland road as your last leg, most are fairly nice too, although fewer of them are driving pickups. There are many good stops along the way and it is a route you will enjoy and see something new each time. Explore it and consider this in 2006.

Inexpensive Craft Time For Your Children

March 28th, 2008

As a parent you probably know how important craft time is to both you and your children- it usually means breaking up the monotony of the day. To children, craft time means expressing their creativity, and just plain having fun. But to many parents, doing a new craft project each day can become expensive. It is expensive if you don’t know where to go to find your craft supplies.

Overspending on crafts doesn’t have to be the case. If you’re a parent who enjoys craft time with your kids then your new favorite store could be your local dollar store. For under fifteen dollars you can easily get a tub full of craft supplies that your kids will go nuts over. Examples of craft supplies you can more than likely find at a dollar store are: glue sticks, paint, paper, stickers, pipe cleaners, pom poms, sticky-backed magnets, foam cut-outs, glitter, stamps and stamp pads, crayons, markers, beads, and design scissors.

Not only that, but dollar stores also carry a large variety of coloring books to keep your kids busy. Find a plastic tub to keep all your kids craft supplies in, then when it’s time to do a craft project just pull out the tub. You could even have your kids decorate their craft tub with stickers they choose. You don’t have to give your child the whole tub of supplies, take out a few different items then let your child have fun and be creative. You can also get out pictures of your kids and other family members that may be a little fuzzy, or a picture you have a double of and let your kids use these in their craft time.

The main point is that a fun and new craft project doesn’t have to be expensive. Replenish your craft tub regularly and you’ll never be out of supplies for your kids to create with.

Back to School; Time to Recharge

March 27th, 2008

The back-to-school shopping is done. Brand new pencils, colored markers, and notebooks fill my daughter’s back pack. I’ve cleaned off the refrigerator in preparation for the new onslaught of pictures and class notices. School’s started. She is excited to be back amongst her friends. I find myself in the everyday routine of waking up in the dark, fixing breakfast and packing lunches. Even though my daughter is old enough to drive herself to school this year, I still rush out the door behind her dressed in sweat pants and no makeup. After a quick work out and a shower, my work day finally begins. It’s good to be back in the routine.

But, back-to-school is also time to recharge the parenting batteries. The kids are gone until at least 3:00. The house is quiet. I actually get some work done for the first time in 3 months. I’ve signed up for an art class at the local university. I have time for lunch with my girlfriends.

This month, why not celebrate back-to-school by taking a few minutes for yourself? Put on your favorite CD and take a long leisurely, uninterrupted bath. Why not go for coffee with the girls or host a brunch for your neighborhood friends? Try something decadent, just for mom.

Dating Advice 5 Biggest Internet Dating Mistakes

March 26th, 2008

Dating after a divorce is tough. You don’t quite know where to start so here are a few internet dating mistakes and their solutions.

1. Too much too soon
So you have been ploughing through those endless profiles on your internet dating site and have come up with someone who interests you. There has been an exchange of emails. He sounds fun and witty and you begin to look forward to his messages. You find yourself getting up earlier in the morning just to log on whilst you drink your coffee to see if he has sent a response to your latest remarks. During the day you compile witty replies in your head and suggestive lines to throw his way. This has gone on for a couple of weeks and he suddenly asks if he can call you. Your chest expands; you are really excited and arrange a time. Now you are curled up in your favourite chair waiting for the call. Guess what it goes well, the same light banter, his voice is not what you expect but that is OK. You talk for an hour. This becomes a daily ritual which you begin to plan your time around. And then he invites you to dinner

2. Throwing money at it
It has been a while since someone invited you out to dinner (you may be just starting dating after your divorce). Your immediate thought is what to wear, need my hair done etc. This means that you spend the best part of a week running around with the one thought in your mind “I must get this right”. You seem to have disappeared and you feel that you need to invent a new person to go on this date. In order to be that person you have to package yourself in some particular way. There must be some key that you can find, a particular dress, new haircut etc. You believe that you need to make yourself more appealing.

3. Thinking that you know the person
The evening has arrived and you meet at the arranged restaurant (good step, as all the dating advice recommends that you meet in a public place). You are especially nervous and excited but also slightly uncomfortable because the shoes are new and you feel a bit wobbly in them. It is strange you recognise this person but at the same time you don’t. The voice you know that but he does not look like the person in the photograph, taller, shorter a bit heavier or gangly something is not as you imagined. Anyway he seems quite at ease but maybe that is just a contrast to how you are feeling. Initially conversation is going well as there are points of contact from your previous conversations but it isn’t going anywhere. By the main course you are starting to drink a little too much to fill in the silences. Your feet really hurt now and you are taking surreptitious glances at your watch - only 9 o’clock. No dessert thanks and by the way you have an early startin the office tomorrow so you have to go soon. Can’t think of anything but getting out of the shoes. Yes it was good, do call me

4. Fantasy - it’s only in your head
Next day or later in the week, the emails/calls are still coming and you continue to respond. It’s a though you have never met and you can get on with the easy going repartee that has become almost a habit. In your mind he is something you want him to be, well not quite but you can have yourself believe that he is whilst you exchange messages and late night calls. You are starting to develop a whole life in your head around this person, you imagine where you can live with him, what you will do, holidays together in fact everything you ever want with someone. This is taking up a lot of head space but that is enjoyable in itself, you feel connected to someone if only in your mind.

5. Not paying attention to the signals
A week or so more and you are becoming slightly irritated by the emails and are not responding quite so readily. But he asks you if you want to come out for another evening and that heart leaps to your throat again. You agree even though there is a vague memory of discomfort from the first meeting. Well you remind yourself that all the dating advice recommends that it is aout getting to know someone. I can’t expect to feel comfortable about everything immediately. He is suggesting dinner again, you don’t really want to but you are not sure what you want to do so you go along with it. You had arranged to see a girl-friend that night but you tell her you can’t make it, she seems a bit put-out but you put that thought aside. The second evening seems very long.

Too much too soon - It is so tempting to put all your focus on one person at a time when you are looking to date on the internet. But it is important to remember that not
only are all those people out there looking at numerous people at any one time but you could be too. If you put most of your time and energy into any one contact at a very early stage this means that you cannot scout, screen and sort other possible people.

Dating Advice: Don’t make a big investment emotionally in any relationship without solid foundations.

Throwing money at it - Recent research has revealed that online daters are spending up to

The Importance Of Location

March 25th, 2008

If you’re just looking for a comfortable home in a decent neighborhood and intending to remain in this home for a long time, location may not be on top of your list of concerns. But if resale value is your priority then you have to think “location, location, location”. It’s that important.

The rule is to buy a house that will appeal to the largest number of future potential buyers. This requires you to make a number of different “location” choices. Which community? Your choice should be narrowed to only a few local communities. You want to buy in a community with a viable and stable economy and a good mixture of commercial and business district. So when you want to sell your house, you can have a reasonable expectation that your community will still be a desirable place to live in. You should also look into the local crime statistics.

Pay close attention to the local schooling system even if you don’t have school-age children or do not intend to have children because many potential buyers often have this concern. Also, property tax in one town maybe higher than others. Usually, potential buyers will choose not to buy a house in the community with higher taxes but it’s not always the case because you will often find that the “cost per square foot” is lower in towns with higher taxes. Meaning, you can buy a bigger house for less money so the mortgage payment plus taxes could result in approximately the same monthly housing costs.

By keeping the above factors in mind before buying, your new home can become a great investment.

Oakley Sunglasses - Technology and a Dog Meets High Performance!

March 24th, 2008

Oakley has been the most successful sunglasses company in the last 30 years, creating technological breakthroughs, spawning hundreds of imitators and basically re-inventing the concept of sunglasses. So who’s behind this global phenomenon, and how is Oakley staying on and over the top?

In 1975, a motorcycle parts salesman named Jim Jannard languished at his dead-end job in California. Along the way, he developed a space-age material he called “Unobtanium”. This material, synthetic and soft, is slightly sticky and grips to the skin well, and even better when wet. He sold it for motorcycle grips, and it is still used today as ear socks on glasses. He touted the handgrip to his bosses, who weren’t interested and told him to continue selling the regular, familiar grips to riders. Frustrated, he quit his job, and with $300 he started Oakley, named after his pet English Setter.

He took a grassroots approach, marketing his grips to local riders at motorcross events. The material was an immediate hit, and in the late 70’s, with the BMX scene taking off, he modified the design for them as well.

Oakley was a major success, but it wasn’t enough for Jannard. The problem he saw was that the grips were covered by the rider’s hands. So, while everybody knew the name “Oakley”, nobody knew what they were. With massive design ideas in his head, he created a pair of motorcross goggles with his logo prominently displayed. They, too, were a huge hit, but by then the young genius was thinking of sports sunglasses, a market which until then did not exist.

The Birth of a New Kind of Eyewear

At the time, sunglasses were your familiar two lens aviator shades. Jannard developed a goggles-like one lens wrap-around frame that curved around the head. They were called the Eyeshade, and not only were they revolutionary in design and technology, nobody in the world had ever seen anything so strange looking and futuristic. In retrospect they fit right in, along with the mullets, big shoulder pads and hair bands of the 80’s!

Orders began trickling in, contrary to what most critics thought of as a weird but dead-end fashion statement. This is because nobody but fans knew what Oakley was actually doing. Through exhaustive research and testing to blend high technology with performance, pro sports stars quickly began to realize how much these sunglasses helped in their game. Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan and David Duval realized in the 1990’s the advantage of wearing Oakleys to dramatically increase their performance. Oakley’s only limitation is being so far ahead of the game that many people do not understand the massive technological effort behind every pair of shades. But this is changing as more and more sports stars are adopting them, from golfers to cyclists to surfers to mountain climbers.

Extreme Technology

Oakley has not only used technology to build their products - they have redefined what sunglasses are. Where sunglasses were once seen exclusively as a cool fashion accessory (though sports glasses did exist with Ray Ban’s polarization filters since the 1930’s), Oakley has made sports eyewear into a technological marvel. Lightweight, durable and impact resistant, the lens, coatings and frames are all designed with advanced materials, blocking all UV light while creating extensive visual clarity and the contrast needed for athletes. Each pair of Oakley’s today can have over a hundred patents built into the frames and lens.

Looking Into the Future

Due to the extreme competition of the sunglass market, Oakley’s designers invent new techniques and materials in ultra-secret bunkers. The last few years has introduced not only more advanced sports eyewear, but wearable technology such as MP3 players and cellphone technology. Branching out into shoes, watches and sports clothing with the same technological philosophy, the future is bright for Oakley. What will come onto the market next will be as exciting and astonishing as what they’ve been inventing for the last few decades!

Now’s the Time to Reclaim our Childbirth Skills

March 23rd, 2008

Consider this. In the US, 3,680,000 women give birth each year, in the UK 700,000 do, Melbourne, Australia 58,000 and the same in New Zealand. Where Common Knowledge Trust is located 1,000 women give birth. New Zealand is unique. In 1995 midwives became autonomous, lead maternity carers. Direct entry 3 year educational programs were set up, they are paid by Government to provide antenatal, delivery and post-natal care within the concept of continuity of care. Women can choose to give birth at home or in hospital with the same midwife. There is no shared care. Over 85% of all pregnant New Zealand women have a continuity of care midwife. Women choosing to birth in hospital, even when referred to a specialist, will have team midwifery care. Ideal isn’t it? Since 1995, the caesarean rate has doubled to over 27% nationally. What’s wrong with the picture?

In modern societies where blame, shame and guilt are raging emotions often associated with birth, changing the system doesn’t seem to have worked. It’s so easy to ask ’so who is to blame?’ Gotcha.

I want a new blue car to drive. I’m planning chicken, salad and apple pie for dinner. When my husband and I have sex this weekend, I want to have the most delicious orgasm. I’ll breastfeed. These sentences have two elements. The most obvious are the choices. The less obvious are the skills. Driving is a learned skill, so is cooking, making love well and breast feeding. Within these skills are some that relate to natural physiological human urges: hunger, sex, breastfeeding. Somehow we know that we have, or haven’t or need to develop skills around these natural physiological experiences. Birth is no different.

Telling Your Stepchildren About Your First Pregnancy

March 22nd, 2008

Congratulations you’re going to be a mother! You have all of the emotions from excitment to anxiety to confusion of a first time expectant mom. You have one thing that many first time expectant moms don’t have: a stepchild.

You are a member of the growing group of expectant moms who are a part of a blended or stepfamily. You are faced with the unique challenge of having your first baby with a husband who has a child or children from a previous relationship.

Regardless of your relationship with your stepchildren, they may experience jealousy or insecurity that daddy is having another baby.

Dad should assure the children that his heart is big enough to love all of his children and that no one will take their place in his eyes.

Now it’s your turn to talk to your stepchildren. What should you say? Consider the following:

Never offer assurance by saying things won’t change after the baby is born. A baby brings changes in life. You probably won’t feel like hosting your stepchild’s slumber party after staying up the previous night with your crying newborn.

Do offer assurance by saying that even though you will have to eliminate some of your activities during pregnancy and after the baby arrives, your stepchild will always have a place in your heart.

Never offer assurance by saying you will love your newborn the same as your stepchild. Even if you believe this is true at the time you announce your pregnancy, don’t say it. Why?

As the months progress, you will be taken by surprise at the intensity of love you feel for the growing baby inside of you. Seeing the first ultrasound and feeling the first movements create a bond that develops long before your baby is born. A stepmom usually does not have the opportunity to develop a bond with her stepchild before birth.

The bond of a first time expectant mom can be so great with her developing baby that if she is a stepmom, she often wishes her husband was sharing the experience as a first time dad as well.

Do offer assurance by reaffirming your love or by reaffirming the special place your stepchild has in your heart. Remind your stepchild that the new baby will be a part of him or her.

Being a stepmom expecting her first baby is no easy feat. In addition to the unsettling emotions pregnancy hormones bring, you have the challenges of a blended or stepfamily.

Take time to relax, pamper yourself and talk about your feelings with those you trust. Cherish each day you grow closer to meeting the little one you’re carrying. Before you know it one day when you hold your baby, you’ll know why mothers refer to their little ones as “the hearts outside of their bodies.”

Cynthia Wilson James is a childbirth educator, author, a midlife mom of two bubbly toddlers and a stepmom. She gave birth at age 42 to her first child and a second child at age 44. You can reach her at her website http://www.inseasonmom.org
